Do you have old, tacky or failing wallpaper in your home? No one really seems to like the work of removing wallpaper (except maybe Paul) but it is definitely worth doing.
Leave the tough work to us. We carefully protect everything; use a variety of techniques and tools to remove the wallpaper; repair any resulting drywall damage; apply texture as needed; then prime and paint the walls. From just one layer of wall paper to multiple coats we can remove it for you.
First we remove all the old wallpaper, then we repair drywall and texture to match.
Sometimes after the first layer you find another layer of wallpaper! This is why many professional wallpaper removers charge by the hour. We have enough experience removing wallpaper that we have a reasonable idea what it will take to do the job and we give you a firm bid so you know what wallpaper removal here in Portland Oregon will cost when you have us strip your wallpaper
Then it’s time for painting and cleanup. Everything is left with solid paint, sharp lines and carefully cleaned.
After removing the wallpaper, it’s time for drywall repair.
Before priming and painting we repaired all the drywall damage, patched this old outlet hole and textured the walls to match the rest of the home.
This wallpaper removal job in Blue Lake, Oregon was a bit further than we normally drive and the wallpaper was in horrible shape. But, our customers were a very nice older couple who had started doing the wallpaper removal themselves and now with just a couple weeks to go before Christmas really needed help to get it done. In less than a week we removed all the old layers of wallpaper, repaired all the lath and plaster walls, prep, primed and painted.
Should you strip or paint over wallpaper?
You can definitely paint over wallpaper. We have mixed feelings about it.
One can paint over well adhered wallpaper by removing any areas that are not well glued down and cutting out the seams. Then you prime with an oil based primer or better yet shellac. Water based paint or primer can make your wallpaper bubble.
Even if the paper is vinyl it is important to prime because using a good oil-based primer-sealer or shellac will insure that the paint will stick to smooth vinyl surface.
One reason we don’t suggest painting over wallpaper is that over time the wallpaper could fail. The resulting repair is not difficult, just cut out all the loose areas, prime and float wallboard compound. Since wallpaper failure once it starts tends to be progressive, this process of failure/repair could continue on and on over the years. If you spend the time now to strip the paper, you save yourself future disappointment.

“I am in the process of selling my home and needed to have multiple rooms of wallpaper removed and some walls repainted. The fact that it took only two days to complete the entire job was a miracle in and of itself. The two man crew worked non-stop throughout the project. The quality of the work was great. I am very happy with the results and so is my realtor. Thanks again for a fantastic job!” Sandy Johnson
Stripping wallpaper is a lot of work, but after a lot of work, drywall repair, primer and paint you’ll never know it was there.

Kurt and Paul: Sherry and I want to thank you and your crew for a really outstanding paint job. You impressed us from the start because you spotted areas that we were aware of that needed special attention and which others estimating our job n
of my newly purchased downtown Portland condo. My good fortune was finding A Fresh Coat Painting and meeting Kurt Deppisch. I soon discovered that Kurt and Paul, the owners of this painting business are not only painters, they are artists. Kurt is willing to follow directions and he is eager to please but when he is given the option of coming up with creative ideas the results have been amazing. After the completion of painting the entire condo interior, with accent colors, Kurt has used a trowel to create a concrete faux stone finish over the balcony floors and he has trimmed both with decorative tile. It has been an affordable and attractive change and everyone who sees them, offers compliments and asks for his business card. This is a business that is dedicated to customer satisfaction. I am presently planning to redecorate another condo and we have already discussed new creative painting options.
